clears a stuck or stray stage directory under [code]WD[e] -- what you need after an interrupted or crashed build leaves [code]err: gcc already staged, run: mp.clean gcc.[e] blocking every subsequent reinstall attempt.
 
resolves a bare name to a stray slotted stage dir too, even with NO corresponding db entry at all (e.g. [code]WD/somepkg:12[e] left behind with nothing in the db to resolve it from) -- a directory-listing fallback scan, since [code]resolved_db_key[e] has nothing to work from in that case.
